The work I am creating now has been a long time coming. The images, surfaces and techniques have been building, developing, and working their way to the surface with the full palate of emotion and experience earned in half a life lived. It has given me a lot of joy to find a language that allows me describe my interior world. It is personal and very elemental. My work is very narrative. I like to discover metaphors and alternate meanings. I have been very touched when people have described it as poetic. I just hope I can avoid too many rhymes. I love to create finishes or include elements that lead the viewer into the objects' possible past lives. I have increasingly chosen to focus on the subtle variety offered by the most basic stains, clay bodies and firing variations. And while I love to carve, I have found a freedom and meaning in using found textures and objects allowing them their history and with repetition across my body of work a fuller life than the moment offered in just one piece.
