While I am greatly inspired by the natural world, dualistic thoughts considerably influence my work. The formal, sculptural aspects of contour, space and line become much more fun and interesting for me to work with when I think in terms or inside-outside, open-closed, light-dark, expansive-contained, separated-integrated, and rugged-refined. The elemental aspects inherent to the ceramic material are what first drew me to work with clay. The soft malleable material allows me to work intuitively, and continues to motivate me through the endless possibilities that it provides. Because life is full of continual change and unexpectedness, I am pleased and comforted to participate in the making of objects of permanence.
