I am a painter, muralist, graphic designer and photographer. I was born in Canada, raised in New Guinea and now live and work and teach in Minneapolis, MN. The contrasts and subtle similarities of growth and decay are the main themes in my abstractions. Tangled matter mimics both natural and technological development and desiccation. Imagery shifts from delicate and intricate to aggressive and invasive. Found objects or ephemera are starting points for my work: deteriorating or jumbled matter, mold and rust formations, meandering shadows, broken electronics and wiring. Layers of transparency in drawing and painting allow for multiple views of observation to merge into one work. My landscapes are painted from photographs I take regionally and internationally. My favorite times to photograph are dusk and dawn or anytime during a storm. I do not include buildings or houses but humans’ influence on the landscapes are evident in farm fields, roads and landscaping.
